The Academy of Perfumery and Aromatics, a non-profit organization based in the U.S., has created an educational kit to remind everyone to use their sense of smell.
It's called "A Sense for Scents," and it contains 20 whispi mini-pumps that use fresh air to deliver scent as a dry vapor. The kit also includes a brochure, two world scent maps, two scent family posters, and an easy-to-follow online teacher's resource pack.
The kit is intended for use in elementary, middle and high school classrooms; in the practices of professionals like psychologists and trauma specialists; and in the studios of storytellers and art therapists.
"Olfaction is the least taught and practiced sense in the classroom and the least used by professionals in general," says ACADEPA President Christophe Laudamiel. "Yet it is often as important as our vision. To feel, remember, make decisions, explore and tell stories."
The creation of "A Sense for Scents" was a collaborative effort that included master perfumer Laudamiel, ACADEPA's Educator and Treasurer Eliza Douglas, and Nicola Pozzani, lecturer on fragrance at the London College of Fashion and Bern University of the Arts.
"A Sense for Scents" materials are available today in English. French, German, Spanish, Russian and Korean versions will be announced in the coming months.
