In order to reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging, Kao is eliminating the use of eye-catching plastic stickers attached to product packaging.
Although the plastic stickers offer the benefit of accurately informing consumers of product features, correct product usage, etc. at the time of purchase, they have a downside: if not disposed of correctly, they may end up as plastic waste carried through river systems to be dumped into the ocean. And, because of the difficulty of separating small plastic stickers from other waste, they may also be disposed of as burnable garbage to become a source of CO2 emissions.
This is why Kao has decided to eliminate the use of plastic stickers. Instead, the company will make the design of the packaging itself and presentation of information that is printed directly on it more eye-catching.
In the case of products that require eye-catching stickers to inform consumers of correct usage, Kao will switch to using eco-friendly materials such as FSC-certified paper instead of plastic.
